In February of this year, a group of 12 friends from the United States visited South Sudan to witness firsthand the positive impact that Undying Hope is having in a country that has been severely affected by decades of civil war and poor infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. South Sudan gained independence from the Republic of Sudan on July 9, 2011, and since then, the government has been working with donors and people of goodwill to build its infrastructure. However, there is still much work to be done because there was no infrastructure before independence, to begin with. During the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to meet with Undying Hope scholarship recipients in 3 out of the 10 South Sudan states, national and state key leaders, and the communities that Undying Hope serves. They also visited hospitals, the Nile, and Undying Hope properties in Aweil, the capital city of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

Undying Hope received valuable feedback and impressions from visitors at the end of their trip to South Sudan. One of the visitors, Bill, described his experience as overwhelming poverty. Bill’s feedback accurately summarized the current situation in South Sudan and highlighted the importance of Undying Hope’s mission to provide hope and opportunity to students who may not have access to education without our help. If you’re reading this update and not yet part of Undying Hope’s support team, I urge you to join our cause so that we can collectively make a lasting impact by planting seeds of generational change. It’s noteworthy that Undying Hope cannot solve the overwhelming poverty in South Sudan alone, but through collective efforts and a shared commitment to education, we can make a difference. Together, we can aim to reduce poverty and create a brighter future for all through education.

Spiritual Formation and Health:
Undying Hope is a mission-driven organization that strives to positively impact South Sudan and beyond through its four core pillars – education, public health and healthcare services, leadership development, and spiritual formation. Our work has been focused on getting the education pillar off the ground. Thankfully, we have made significant strides in the education sector, and our efforts have been successful so far. However, none has been done on the rest of the pillars. The Undying Hope team is currently working on bringing to life the vision of spiritual formation and providing healthcare services to those in need. We seek your support and humbly request prayers for this noble initiative’s success.

Public Universities and Kenya:
Over the last two years, Undying Hope has committed to providing scholarship opportunities to the young minds of South Sudan and Kenya. To date, we have awarded scholarships to 157 students in these regions. In South Sudan, our scholarships are offered to students attending the University of Juba, as well as primary and high schools located in Central Equatoria, Northern Behr el Ghazal, and Western Bahr el Ghazal states. Similarly, in Kenya, we have been providing scholarships to deserving students. However, our goal is to extend scholarships to one more school in Kenya and the remaining five public universities in South Sudan. Nevertheless, we understand that we won’t be able to achieve this goal without adequate funding. Therefore, we continue to seek God’s guidance and provision as we strive to make a difference in the lives of these students.

Teachers Training:
Undying Hope has always been committed to providing scholarships to students, as we believe education is the key to a better future. However, we have realized that investing in teachers’ training can go a long way in improving the quality of education and making a greater impact. Therefore, this year, we have decided to focus on training teachers, starting in Northern Behr el Ghazal and Western Bahr el Ghazal states. We are delighted to share that we are expecting grant funds from rotary clubs that will specifically be used for the training of teachers. Undying Hope leadership team is thrilled about this new initiative and eagerly looking forward to the positive changes it will bring to the lives of teachers and the many students they will impact along the way. I will keep you updated as we receive more information about this exciting new development.

Together, we can reduce South Sudan’s overwhelming poverty and create a brighter future for all through education 🙂

Until next update, take care of yourself and each other
With much love and gratitudes
