Since South Sudan gained its hard-earned independence from the Republic of Sudan on July 9, 2011, the literacy rate has been at 27%, one of the lowest in the world’s educational index. This low rate suggests that only 73% of the South Sudanese can read and write. Due to concerted efforts on the ground and the generosity of friends and family like you, South Sudan’s literacy rate rose for the first time from 27% to 32% (see map below!)
Together, we can give hope and opportunity to many unreached and undeserved young South Sudanese. We can do more to enhance the current South Sudan literacy rate.
Until the next update, take care of yourself and each other
