Story of Hope: Evaline
For over three years, Undying Hope has been making a tremendous impact in war-torn South Sudan, rekindling hope among its people. For Evaline (now Dr. Evaline), receiving the Undying Hope scholarship felt like an answer to prayer. She is a medical student is set to graduate in February 2025. When the scholarship program began at the University of Juba, Evaline was already a year behind on her tuition payments, having missed two semesters of payments while in her fourth year.
At the time the Undying Hope scholarship program started at the University of Juba, Evaline was behind on her tuition by an entire year (two semesters) and was in her fourth year. In the second week of the semester, the university directed campus security personnel not to allow anyone who had not paid their tuition fees to enter. Evaline found herself in trouble because she had not paid, so she had to devise a way to get on campus without being noticed by the security guards.
To avoid detection, Evaline would wake up very early, arriving on campus by 6:30 a.m., before any classes began. This was a time when the guards assumed only serious students would be present. She balanced her studies with family responsibilities, maintaining this routine despite the challenges. Evaline was determined to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor, knowing that if she made excuses, she might never achieve her goal.
While she was navigating these challenges, the medical school registrar was trying to reach her. The registrar had attempted to contact her several times by phone, but was unsuccessful because Evaline was busy attending lectures and studying. Often, she didn’t have the means to return calls, and she didn’t recognize the registrar’s number, so she didn’t return those calls. Eventually, a classmate helped connect them, informing Evaline that the registrar wanted to meet her urgently about a scholarship awarded in her name.
The news was exhilarating yet felt almost too good to be true. She rushed to the registrar’s, arriving on the same day that Theil and Dr. Charles were hosting a meet-and-greet session with other scholarship beneficiaries. Upon entering the hall, everyone seemed to recognize her.
The Undying Hope scholarship, which has supported Evaline through the last two years of her studies, means everything to her. She expresses her gratitude by saying, “It was a sheer miracle because I was praying to God to make a way, but I didn’t know it would be a full two years of tuition. God truly blesses the Undying Hope Organization for restoring my hope and helping me reach the finishing line.”
Evaline William Arkangelo was one of the students supported by Undying Hope and she graduated as Dr. Arkangelo in February 2025.
